Famous Oatmeal Cookies

Yield: 5 dozen
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 cups oats, uncooked
  1. Beat shortening and sugars, then egg, water, and vanilla together until creamy.
  2. Sift flour, salt, soda; add to creamed mixture; blend well.
  3. Stir in oats.
  4. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
  5. Bake at 350º from 10 to 12 minutes.
